Do you wonder about the universe? I always have. Stephen Hawking does too, but he has millions in research grants behind his questions, meaning that he might have the resources to find some answers.

The Discovery Channel’s special, Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking attempts to explore the possibility of alien life (it’s more than probable, given how large the universe appears to be), time travel (say what?), and the ‘story of everything’ (he has low expectations for himself, I guess). The graphic budget for the show must be immense, as each idea is outlined through a number of beautiful simulated and real images of our planet, solar system, galaxy, and universe.

There are only three episodes, which is a shame, because I could watch this program for days and still be fascinated. He talks about black holes and the big bang in simple terms while still demonstrating immensely complex notions. I wish that I could be as well-spoken about any topic, really.

If you’re curious about space (the final frontier, as some dorks might say), and you appreciate pretty science photos and visualizations, then I think Into the Universe could be a worthwhile investment of time.

NYFWC Score: 10/10 (science rocks.)
